Community in Action: NBW's Hurricane Melissa Relief Effort

When Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica's Western Parishes and communities, the impact hit close to home. Many members, partners, and friends of the Network of Black Women were personally affected, with homes, belongings, and communities partially or completely destroyed.

In response, NBW organized a relief effort that was as personal as it was urgent. Donations were gathered and brought directly to Jamaica by NBW Board Directors, who traveled to personally deliver care packages to families and communities in need.

The response from our community was overwhelming. Every donation, every message, and every person who showed up to help pack and prepare care packages turned generosity into real, tangible impact.

Special recognition goes to the volunteers whose commitment, leadership, and tireless effort made the entire operation possible — from coordinating logistics to ensuring every package reached the right hands. Their dedication was instrumental in the success of this mission.
